Member Spotlight: Annie Colegrove & Kathleen Spadavecchio, Owners, Bedside Manor

Lake/Forest Lake Bluff Chamber:  Tell us a bit about Bedside Manor and what makes your business unique?

AC & KS:  Bedside Manor was started 40 years ago by our mom, Meg Carroll, and it has remained the Chicagoland destination for luxury bedding & bath linens, and home accessories. Our three shops and ecommerce site (shopbedside.com) carry a timeless selection of linens for the bed and the bath from the leading brands in the industry. And our talented and educated design associates work closely with each customer to help create a space that works well for their lifestyle, taste, and budget. At Bedside, we are “Setting the Style for Sleep”.

What makes us unique? We are a family run, women-owned, small business that takes immense pride in creating beautiful bedroom and bathroom retreats for all our valued customers. We have been setting the style for sleep for four decades, and we look forward to many more successful years to come.

LF/LB: What inspired you to open the first Bedside Manor and pursue a career in this industry?

AC & KS:  Forty years ago our mom, Meg Carroll, alongside her former business partner and college roommate opened the first Bedside Manor Ltd in Long Grove, IL. They saw a demand for the category and both had a strong passion for retail and textiles.

Our dad, Michael Carroll, then joined the Bedside team, partnering with Meg and creating the premier source for elegant bedding across the Chicagoland area.

Now, fast forward a few decades, and the business has been passed on to the next generation. Meg and Michael’s two daughters, Annie and Kathleen, alongside Annie’s husband, Will Colegrove, have now taken the reins.

We currently have three locations—Lake Forest, Winnetka, and Lincoln Park, and this marks 24 years in Lake Forest!  We are always looking forward to future projects and new trends within the home fashion world.

LF/LB: What is your vision or hope for the future of your business?

AC & KS:  We are honored to be kicking off our fortieth year in business this month, and we hope to continue the heritage of providing the world’s best bedding and bath collections to our communities alongside the best customer service. We love what we do and feel tremendously blessed to come to work every day. We are grateful for our loyal employees, many of whom have been with us for decades, and for our incredible customers!

We hope to build on the legacy of Bedside Manor and welcome new customers into the shops and continue to do what we know best  – creating bedding ensembles that make a house feel like a home.

LF/LB:  How does Bedside Manor give back to the community?

AC & KS:  At Bedside Manor, we are always looking to give back to our communities. From spearheading annual blanket drives each winter, to donating products to various local charities and events throughout the year, we strive to collaborate and partner with our neighbors to ensure that we are always connected. Our business is our life, and our lives are built upon these incredible communities that we have called home for over forty years.

LF/LB: Is there anything else you would like to share about your business?

AC & KS:  We are very excited to announce the newest embroidery within our Private Label collection. Honoring our 40th year in business, the Agave collection encapsulates beauty, immense attention to detail, celebration and timelessness. It will join the five other embroideries within our Private Label assortment that are all crafted in Italy with the highest-level Egyptian cotton – and that have been our best-selling, customer favorite sheeting for decades.

The Bedside Manor Private Label collection is exquisitely made, and exclusively ours.
