Matt Brueggeman, Owner, Flotstone Floatation Therapy

Lake/Forest Lake Bluff Chamber: What was your inspiration to take over this wonderful Lake Bluff business?

Matt Brueggeman: Flotstone was founded in 2018 by Lake Bluff resident, Susie McMurray. I was fortunate to get to know Susie over the summer of 2023 when I learned she was looking to retire. The more I learned about her business I too became passionate about the benefits of Floatation and all the potential that this unique business offers to the community, and I became a buyer!

LF/LB: Tell us a little bit about Flotstone and the services you offer?

MB: As the name suggests, Flotstone was started with services centered around Floatation therapy. We boast three floatation sensory deprivation tanks – a zero-gravity and zero-stress environment designed to help your mind, body, and spirit to relax, recover and reset. We also have a full spectrum infrared sauna, which offers a plethora of health benefits. We are also excited to be adding a 37-degree F cold plunge tank that will be non-chemically sanitized with the same technology used in our float pools. We have so much invested in cleanliness from our facility to our services, to the broad spectrum filtered water we serve – something we are proud of and take very seriously.

LF/LB: What is your vision or hope for the future of your business?

MB: Since taking over the business, I have expanded our hours to now be open Monday – Saturday 9:00 am – 7:00 pm, with walk-in same day appointments offered when availability allows. My vision for Flotstone is to truly become a premium destination spa in the community – a place where people come to spend the day, unplug, and reconnect with themselves. I am excited about expanding our new spa services as well as growing our retail business to offer premium spa products, robes, candles and more. We want to make sure when people think of luxury recovery and relaxation, they think of Flotstone.

LF/LB: How does Flotstone plan to support our community under your leadership?

MB: We are proud to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce. We sponsor scorecards at local golf courses as well as contribute to charity events and raffles throughout. We would like to work with local businesses to provide professional development by offering a place to unplug, reduce stress and return to the workplace reinvigorated. I am also deeply invested in helping the veteran community as well as first responders. The results of floatation therapy have shown to help with past or current trauma, as well as the affects of PTSD.  We offer 20% off our services for all veterans, active military and first responders. I am also very interested in creating a recurring sponsored day for Military and first responders to be able to access the facility free of charge completely.

LF/LB: Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself or the business?

MB:  My family and I live in this community as well and I am honored to carry on the Flotstone tradition. I look forward to continuing to grow this business becoming “the destination spa” for Lake Bluff/Lake Forest residents, and beyond!
